Arona: Sancarlone (La statua di San Carlo)
Claim to fame: apparently the Sancarlone is second only to the Statue of Liberty in height. You can climb the stairs inside the statue of Carlo Borromeo and enjoy the view from the platform inside its head.
La statua del Sancarlone sembra essere seconda solo alla Statua della Liberta' in quanto ad altezza. E' possibile salire fino alle cima della statua e godersi uno spettacolare panorama.
Besano: Musee Fossili/Fossil Museum
Besano’s claim to fame is its fossil fields. The museum contains a large collection of local fossils, from the beginning of the Mesozoic era. Look out for the Besanosaurus Leptorhynchus, at 6 metres long, currently the largest reptile marine fossil ever discovered in Italy, and the Saltriosaurus, a fossil dinosaur.
Il Museo di Besano e' famoso nel settore dei fossili. Esso contiene una vasta collezione di fossili locali dall'inizio del Mesozoico. Vae la pena dare una occhiata al Besanosaurus Leptorhynchus, lungo 6 metri (il piu' grande rettile marino fossile scoperto in Italia) e allo Saltriosaurus (un fossile di dinosauro).

Brebbia – Musee Pipe/ Pipe Museum
The Brebbia pipe factory is one of the oldest in the Varese area. The Pipe Museum contains pipes from Brebbia and from all over the world (30.000!).
La fabbrica di pipe di Brebbia e' una delle piu' antiche nella zona di Varese. l'omonimo Museo contiene pipe da tutto il mondo (30.000!)

Rocca d’Angera
A perfectly preserved medieval fortress on the Quirico hill in Angera: The Rocca passed from the hands of the Archbishops of Milan via the Visconti family to its present owners, the Borromeos in the Middle Ages. Highlights are the Sala del Giudizio and the view from the tower of the lake, Arona, the Appenines and the Alps.
Una fortezza medievale perfettamente conservata sulla cima del Monte S. Quirico di Arona. La Rocca passo' dalle mani del VEscovo di Milano a quelle della famiglia Visconti a quelle attuali della famiglia Borromeo. Straordinaria la Sala del Giudizio e lo splendido panorama di cui si gode.

Ranco: Musee di Trasporto/ Ogliari transport museum
1820 steam engines, locomotives, cars an Underground train with its station, a wind powered railway from1858, and a funicular railway with a “water counterweight” system.

Sesto Calende: Museum of Archaelogy
Burial remains of pre- Iron Age and Proto-celtic cultures discovered in the surrounding areas. Highlights are the Tombs of Tripode, extraordinary both for their quality and quantity, and records of two Tombs of the Warrior. There are some explanatory panels. There is also a fossil collection of fossils found in nearby Cheglio

Varese: Sacro Monte
A Unesco World Heritage Site; with charming monuments and landscapes. You can walk the Holy Path starting at the village of Santa Maria del Monte taking in 14 chapels and ending at the Sanctuary.

Sotto tutela UNESCO. E' possibile anche raggiungerlo a piedi attraverso la Via Crucis che si snoda dal paese di Santa Maria al Monte fino al Santuario toccando 14 cappelle.
Golasecca: Iron-Age Culture/Cultura Preistorico
This area in the hills near Sesto Calende is the site of a large iron age necropolis of the Golasecca civilisation. Shiny black cinerary urns containing ashes of the iron-age dead can be found in local museums (Sesto Calende). Not far from Golasecca, on a plateau in the woods overlooking the Ticino, there are some prehistoric stone structures.
Bisuschio: Villa Cicogna Mozzoni
XV century Renaissance style villa set in multi-level Italian style gardens. Pretty water effects with ponds, grottos and fountains.

Castelletto Ticino:Museo Gottard Park

The park houses numerous old transport vechicles from the twentieth century: cars, motorbikes, airplains, vehicles from the public transport and for army and agricultural use. The vehicles are exhibited partly in covered places but it is also an open air museum. If you/ your children have enjoyed the Ogliari Transport Museum in Ranco you should definitely visit this place. There is an entrance fee.
Ci sono antichi mezzi di trasporto dal ventesimo secolo nel parco: macchine, motocicli, aeroplani e mezzi di trasporto per uso publico, militare e agricolo. I veicoli sono esposti in parte al’coperto in parte all’aperto. Se tu i tuoi bambini avete amato il Museo del Trasporto a Ranco anche questo é un posto per voi. Ingresso a pagamento.

If you like visiting nice old castles this is one for you. You can see painted ceilings, furnished rooms, a collection of valuable plates- all the accessories of a real castle. You can enter the castle only with a guided tour so you have to keep your children at your side but still it is an interesting visit. Tours are done mainly in Italian, in other languages only by prior registration (or if you are lucky and your guide can speak English.)
Se ti piace visitare belli antichi castelli questo é appunto per te. Si puó vedere tutto,quello che offre un autentico castello: stanze arredate, una collezione di piatti, muri e sofitti dipinti. Si puó entrare solo con visite guidate, cosi tu devi tenere i tuoi bambini con te ma anche cosi é una bella visita.
